Kobe Bryant Officially Announces Retirement

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this NBA season.

The 37-year-old shooting forward posted the announcement Sunday on The Players’ Tribune, titled “Dear Basketball”.

“My heart can take the pounding. My mind can handle the grind. But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye,” Bryant wrote. “And that’s OK. I’m ready to let you go. I want you to know now. So we both can savor every moment we have left together. The good and the bad. We have given each other all that we have.”

The announcement does not come as a surprise as he was considering making is 20th NBA season his last and has noticeably been struggling this season.

After two decades of playing, he is considered one of the greatest players in the game. Bryant has two Olympic Gold medals, five NBA championship rings, 17 All-Star selections, more than 32,000 points and holds the second best 81-point game in NBA history.
